Welcome to Hockessin

Peaceful family-friendly living meets easy city access

Hockessin is a peaceful suburb located near the Wilmington metro area. Its proximity to Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania makes it a perfect small-town haven with easy city access. It is not uncommon for residents to enjoy a weekend in Philadelphia or Washington DC, and feel the electricity of a larger city. Hockessin has charms that make staying and living in the community very attractive.

While the northeast corridor may be an exceptionally crowded part of the United States, the number of reliable transportation services make Hockessin a key stop for travelers journeying by road, or even commuters going in and out of large cities. Unlike a bustling metropolis, Hockessin tends to attract those that are looking for a slower, quieter pace of life while still being connected.

Several parks dot the surrounding area and there is access to local boutiques, restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping. Residents love the laid-back lifestyle.

Like the northeast corridor, Hockessin is home to a growing population of commuters looking to take advantage of the excellent public transport to get in and out of the cities for work and play. It’s very common to see residents mingling on public transport or train stations, but the family-friendly nature of the community has a way of putting people first, and business second.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

End the day with quick take-out from Lettie’s Kitchen, a family-run establishment with homestyle, American cooking.

Shopping in the Hockessin area is a reflection of the local and historic economy, which is mostly agricultural. There are a host of fresh produce and meats at the local grocery stores, health food boutiques, and natural food markets. Equestrians will find everything they need at Dover Saddlery

The entertainment in Hockessin is largely dominated by the large metroplexes of the surrounding areas. You can go for a comedy show or night out in the Wilmington area, or take a trip down the I-95 corridor to Washington DC, for an educational journey through America’s past, present, and future. For a home-grown entertainment experience, stay within Hockessin for some live music at one of the many restaurants and green spaces in the area.
