Pike Creek is a close, family-friendly community located in north Delaware near the Wilmington metro area. With easy access to highways and reliable public transport, the proximity to Maryland and Pennsylvania make it an exceptionally growing community that wants to be plugged into the action of a large city. With Wilmington and Philadelphia being the closest in the area, and offering the largest airports, it’s not uncommon for residents to spend a weekend in either of those cities. That being said, Pike Creek remains one of the best communities in Delaware and is known as an excellent place to raise a family, especially with young couples moving to the area with the influx of jobs.

Pike Creek is an ideal place for couples and growing families that are looking to step away from the hustle and rush of city life, while still being within a quick drive or train ride away from the big cities. A growing number of working professionals moving into the area has notably spurred development, not only of houses, but local green space, golf courses, and commercial areas. Limestone Road is the main thoroughfare connecting the town and other towns in the region, and is a magnet for local businesses, restaurants, and people looking to relax after a long day. 

Like other towns in the Wilmington area, Pike Creek is known for an expanding community of young commuters, using public transport to get to and from the large cities in the area. With many residents working in Wilmington, a national financial center, it’s very common for outdoor get-togethers during summer evenings after a hard week of work. 

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Pike Creek benefits from the influx of cultures in the northeast region and the number of transplants in the region moving for work. The area offers a wide range of restaurants and breweries for an enjoyable night out with a spouse or the family. Visit Chuck Lager Tavern, a local community tavern perfect for burgers, bar food, and excellent beer. For a more family-friendly experience, visit Carousel Park Farmers Market to explore local produce and meats from the Delaware area, turning into an awesome learning opportunity for all. For a sit-down family dining experience, try Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, for one of the best family-run pizza joints in the region. Finally, for fresh and gourmet sandwiches, visit PureBread Deli for a quick lunch bite. 

While shopping options in the immediate Pike Creek area are limited, it has a local grocery store for any household's weekly food needs. Just down the road and Kirkwood highway, a quick ten-minute drive from Pike Creek, is a more expansive shopping area, with a Kohls, Petco, Michaels, and other home goods and services. 

The advantage of being close to a large city is the access to world-class entertainment opportunities. With a drive into Philadelphia or Wilmington, a sophisticated night out or enjoying a show is closeby. A host of sports teams in the area also make for a day at a football or baseball game very reasonable and adds to the family-friendly living.

Things to Do

Summertime is the best time to be active in the community and to enjoy the amazing and accessible outdoors. As residents in the region like to be adventurous and try new things, activities such as horseback riding and hiking in a new area are not uncommon. Visit Carousel Farm Park & Equestrian Center for a family-friendly experience where kids can learn how to ride a horse and have the opportunity to bond with the animals. For a more secluded experience, visit White Clay Creek State Park for some fun hiking, biking, or just taking some time to relax with a picnic and some reading. For some amazing green spaces, visit the Middle Run Natural Area, an expansive park that offers 16 miles of trails over the 10 acres of the park itself. Other opportunities to explore the coastal Delaware area are a quick drive away, offering quiet and peaceful white-sand beaches. 

Practicing a sport is another popular way to meet others in the community. The Pike Creek area is home to some of the best golf courses in the area. The Delcastle Golf Course is one such place in the community, and likewise is a perfect place to bring the family as well. If looking for a more public experience, visit the Deerfield Public Golf course, for some quick social fun, whether that be while relaxing with coworkers after work, or family fun by teaching golf to kids.
